My buddy Ben is a very talented professional photographer, so I went to him to buy the equipment necessary for the class. I bought this Canon A-1 35mm manual SLR with a 50mm lens. This thing was top of the line in like 1980. Picking it up, I was surprised at how heavy it is, compared with modern cameras. This thing is made of metal, rather than plastic, so it's durable and should last another 25 years.
The 35mm film camera is quickly becoming a relic, following the same path tread by record players and VCRs. I hope to keep this for awhile. I like the way it looks, plus it serves as a reminder to me of a time when analog was the way of the world.
